Team Antigua Atlantic Rowers are in second place with 660 miles left to complete the 2017 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.
According to a press release issued yesterday, “The three leading teams have 624 (Oarsmen), 660 (Antigua) and 680 (Swiss) miles yet to row and are consistently covering over 90 miles per day. Winds are 23 knots at 080 degrees.”
The release highlighted that Team Antigua was holding on to second place and was ready for the final push home. At the time, Team Antigua was at Lat/Long 18.44/50.20 rowing at 4.4 knots, faster than the Four Oarsmen (3.8 knots) and Swiss M’Ocean (4 knots).
Team Antigua is one of 28 teams taking part in the 2017 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge: “The World’s Toughest Row” – a 3000-mile ocean rowing race from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua.
Team Antigua’s goal is to create a properly managed marine protected area outside of Nelson’s Dockyard to benefit Antigua both environmentally and economically. The area will flourish with life and attract tourists and tour companies alike. They will work with National Parks Antigua, Fisheries, Coast Guard and the Environmental Awareness Group in this task with the funds raised. They also hope to use a portion of the donations to help in Barbuda where possible following Hurricane Irma.
