The President of the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers (ABUT) is endorsing the Ministry of Education’s decision to expel two students who were found guilty of bullying another student at the All Saints Secondary School.

Ashworth Azille believes that the Ministry of Education would have conducted a thorough and meticulous investigation before arriving at its severe decision and consequently, he sided with the ministry.

“The Ministry of Education does not arrive at the position of expelling a child from school very easily,” Azille said. “The evidence has to be so compelling that the Director of Education and his team who supervise or oversee that particular disciplinary hearing would move to the position that they will remove that child from the public-school system.”

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Education expelled a student who was seen on video wrapping a cord around another students’ neck.

The student who recorded the video and was heard cheering on the perpetrator was also expelled.
