Browne’s 40 propels Bullets in ABSCA Alva Joseph men’s softball tournament

Veteran Morrison Browne was unlucky not to have gotten his half century at 41 not out as he led Bullets to a comfortable 79-runs triumph over Sisserou in the Everyday Store 24/7 Ltd/Alva Joseph Male 10 Overs Competition being put on by the Antigua and Barbuda Softball Cricket Association (ABSCA).

Browne received some assistance from Kenroy Simon who made 16 as Bullets amassed 94 for four in their allotted 10 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat.

Sisserou, who only fielded six players, were then bowled out for just 15 in 5.3 overs. There were three wickets each for Dorian Grant (3/1) and Kimani George (3/6).

There was victory as well for Dredgers who beat 300 by eight wickets.  Winning the toss and opting to bat, 300 reached 74 for seven in their 10 overs with their best effort coming from Charles James who made 29 not out. Denfield “Mandy” Weatherhead contributed with 17 not out.

Kirk Douglas was the pick of the bowlers for the opponents, claiming four wickets for 15 runs in two overs while Ricky Buckley snatched two wickets for two runs in his two overs.

Dredgers, when their turn at the crease arrived, reached their target at 65 for two in 7.2 overs. Mervin Higgins top-scored with 22 while Rae Charles ended on 17 not out. Zach Thomas was the top bowler in a losing effort for 300, claiming two wickets for 17 runs in two overs.

In the other two matches contested, Strictly Business beat PMS by seven wickets while Buckley’s 3Js defeated Strictly Business by nine wickets.

Meanwhile, there was action in the Sagicor Enforcers Female 10 overs Competition also put on by the ABSCA with Flyers beating Strictly Business by 10 wickets.

Opting to bat after winning the toss did not quit work in Strictly Business’ favour as they were restricted to just 34 runs in their 10 overs. Gaynel O’Garro did the damage with the ball for the victors with two for three in two overs.

O’Garro then returned to post 15 not out with the bat while Makada Samuel top-scored with 27 not out as they led Flyers to 40 without loss in just three overs.

There was also a 10-wicket triumph for Bullets over Survivors. Batting first after winning the toss, Survivors posted 51 for four in their 10 overs with Cerie Richards hitting a top score of 16 not out. Mauricia Willette bagged two for eight in two overs.

Bullets then raced to 52 without loss in five overs with Cheryl Williams hitting 37 not out.

In other results, Flyers defeated Jennings Rockets by nine wickets and Bullets best Potters Uprising Serpents by two wickets.
