Stingerz upset frontrunners Flyers in First Division Basketball

The double header on Sunday in the First Division of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association at the JSC Sports Complex, lived up to the hype as Flyers Basketball unbeaten run in eight games was ended by Northside Stingerz in the final match of the evening.

The first two quarters were won by the Stingerz 15-12 and 17-15 to head into halftime with the scoreline being 32-27.

The Flyers seemed stung by the Stingerz in the third quarter as they could only get to seven points compared to the 11 points scored by the winners.

Final quarter ended 55-45 in favour of the Northside Stingerz who won all four quarters against the front runners.

Joshua Minner shot a game high 20 points with Jayzee Saltibus lending assistance with 12 points and 20 rebounds for the victors while Jahronte Daley and Adonis Humphreys had eight and seven points respectively.

The Stingerz now have eight wins from 10 outings moving to 18 points surpassing Flyers who are now on 17 points from nine outings. The league title will be up for grabs on Tuesday evening as Flyers will play their final game against the Spanish Heat. Should they win they will be crowned league Champions, if not then Stingerz will be named Champions.

The first match of the evening saw Kennedy’s Club Ltd Ottos Full Throttle beat All Saints Slam by 26 points in a 78 to 52 scoreline.

The winners dominated the first three quarters, winning 22-12, 18-13, 18-7, but drew the final quarter 20-20.

Throttle’s Shaquille Kelly top-scored with 20 points while teammates Marlon David and Warren Bogle had 16 points each.

For Slam, Judah Ferris had 20 points while Kim Casey scored 12.
