West Indies Under-19 wicketkeeper batsman Jewel Andrew has been named in the Leeward Islands Hurricanes 14-man squad for the upcoming CG United Super 50 Tournament.

The 16-year-old who attends the Antigua Grammar School and plays for the Pigotts Crushers, stroked a mature 62 on Monday at Warner Park, in the first and only practice match after the other two matches organised by the LICB were abandoned due to the inclement weather.

The batting prodigy continues to excel after a string of excellent performances for the 2023 season on the local, regional and international scene.

The team will be captained by West Indies talismanic fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who will assume the reins from West Indies wicketkeeper batsman Jahmar Hamilton. He will be deputised by all-rounder Rahkeem ‘Jimbo’ Cornwall.

West Indies batting all-rounder Justin Greaves of Barbados and fast bowler Oshane Thomas are the other new faces that are part of the squad.

Former West Indies opening batsman Kieran Powell was also named in the team along with West Indies leg spin all-rounder Hayden Walsh Jr and batsman Keacy Carty.

Other batting all-rounders named in the squad are Kofi James, Karima Gore and Terrence Warde whereas Jeremiah Louis and Daniel Doram are the bowling all-rounders.

Leeward Islands will begin their campaign when they take on Jamaica Scorpions at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on October 18.
