Close to two weeks after an inmate at Her Majesty’s Prison was found hanging in his cell, the Minister of Public Safety, Steadroy ‘Cutie’ Benjamin, is yet to receive a report from the Superintendent of the facility.
On Thursday, Benjamin said he was told that the document should be forthcoming by the end of next week.
When asked about the length of time it is taking for the report to be submitted, the minister stated that,” In matters of this nature one does not wish to rush these types of investigations. Matters like this must take their time to be properly investigated so a proper report can be done”.
The minister said that when the report is handed over to his department, he will discuss it with the media at the appropriate time.
The prisoner, Cordayro Joseph, 27, was found dead, hanging in his cell on the morning of September 27.
A senior prison officer told OBSERVER media at that time, that the inmate was pronounced dead in the maximum-security jail cell which he shared with another inmate. At the time of his death Joseph was serving a 35-year jail sentence for the 2011 murder of Coldrick Lewis.
