Progressors move ahead, Young Warriors record first win

As the race intensifies for promotion, JSC Progressors took a much-needed leap atop the Zone 2 Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Division 2 standings.

Progressors, after beating Earthquakes 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon, moved three points clear of second placed Young Lions.  

Marlon Pert (15th), Jamie Harris (40th) and Akeem Smith (57th) were the goal-scorers for the front-runners, while Raheem Andre (48th) scored the lone goal for Earthquakes.

Earthquakes remain 6th with 26 points.

Young Lions, who were also in action on Tuesday, went under to Jennings United losing 2-1.

Gayon Wright was a goal shy of a hattrick for the victors scoring in the 26th and 45th minutes, while Conrad Willock got one back for Young Lions.

United are now 4th with 29 points.

Bailey’s Jewelry Young Warriors pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season by beating former Antigua Premier League (APL) champions Bassa SC, 2-0.

Seon Hazelwood (4th) and Malique Edwards were the goal scorers for the victors who now have four points but still remain at the bottom of the table.

Bassa are 9th with 16 points.

In the other match played that day, Belmont stunned Sea View Farm FC edging them out 2-1.

T. Joseph recorded a brace for the victors hitting home in the 54th and 59th minutes while Markland Wright (19th) was the lone goal scorer for Sea View Farm.

They now have 15 points in the 11th spot while Sea View Farm are 7th with 25 points.
