Potters Tigers picked up a crucial win in their bid for promotion to the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Premier Division when, in a top of the table clash, they edged former champions Five Islands 2-1 at the FA’s Technical Centre on Tuesday.

The win moves Potters to 43 points after 17 matches at the top of the standings while Five Islands remains on 40 points in the number two position from the same number of showings.

Javorn Benjamin put Potters ahead on minute 22 before Jaheim Jeremy drew Five Islands level on minute 45. However, Brian Davis secured all three points for the Tigers when he struck just three minutes after the interval in the 48th.

Benjamin was sent off in minute 78 after picking up a second yellow card.

There was victory as well for Police as they hammered Bendals FC 6-1 to move into third on the standings after 17 showings. Demitri Scotland (24, 64) and Glenroy Prince (49, 83) both scored twice for the lawmen while Clinton Daniel (77) and Joumol Semper (90+2) each scored once. Darren Stevens scored the lone goal for Bendals when he struck in minute 58.

Bendals’ Peirson Vital was driven off in minute 27 for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

The victory, Police’s 11th of the season, moves them to 36 points while Bendals remains on 12 points after 18 showings and third from bottom on the 11-team standings.

In the other match contested Monday, Bolans FC defeated Fort Road 4-2 at Jennings.

Thair Thomas led the charge for the victors with a brace, netting in minutes 38 and 60 while Taiem Tonge (13) and Braheem Spencer (own goal in the 25) accounted for the other conversions. Ezekiel Thomas scored both goals for Fort Road with strikes in minutes 4 and 23.
