Anthony Joseph, who is charged with the murder of his cousin Gavin “Fathead” Edwards, has been remanded to prison pending his committal in the St John’s Magistrates’ Court.
Yesterday, he appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh who set September 7 as the date when it is to be determined whether there is enough evidence to warrant forwarding the case to the High Court for trial.
Joseph has the option of seeking bail in the High Court. He could not get it yesterday since magistrates do not have the authority to grant bail when a person is charged with murder.
The 21 year old allegedly had an altercation with Edwards on the night of Monday, June 12 on lower St John’s Street.
During the incident, Edwards was stabbed in the abdomen with a pair of scissors and Joseph was also injured with a glass bottle.
Both men were taken to hospital but Edwards died shortly afterwards while receiving treatment. Joseph was treated and discharged two days later into police custody.
