St Mary’s South MP Kelvin ‘Shugy’ Simon has resigned from his position.
The 42-year-old from Bolans became a first-time MP after January’s general election in which he defeated the ABLP’s Samantha Marshall by almost 200 votes.
Simon says the legal action launched by the governing party over his eligibility for the position threatens to drag on for another 12 months.
The uncertainty is unfair, he says, to his constituents.
Simon’s resignation will now trigger a by-election that must be held within the next 120 days.
Simon says he is confident he will be returned to his seat.
