National female high jumper, Priscilla Frederick, had to settle for a fourth-place finish in the Women’s High Jump finals on Thursday night at the Pista Atletica in Baranquilla, Colombia at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.
The 29-year-old overseas-based athlete just missed the mark to secure a spot on the medal pedestal, clearing a height of 1.82 metres, four metres short of the silver medalist Ximena Esquivel of Mexico and Colombia’s Maria Munillo Duarte, and five metres short of her season’s best of 1.87 metres.
St. Lucia’s Donalie Spencer was a class above the rest to claim the gold medal with a height of 1.90 metres but was a few metres short of the game’s record held by Juana Arrendel of the Dominican Republic with 1.90 metres in the 2002 at San Salvador, Spain.
The world record holder is Stefka Kostadinova of Bulgaria with 2.09 metres which she achieved in 1987 in Roma, Italy.
