This evening at 6 pm, the St. John’s fire station responded to a distress call reporting a structure fire on Church Street.
Number 15 fire tender arrived at the scene to find a wooden structure fully engulfed in flames, and efforts were immediately initiated to control and extinguish the fire, utilizing water from the fire tender.
Additional support arrived from fire tenders dispatched from Coolidge Fire Station and All Saints Fire Station with Hugh Christian also deploying his water delivery truck as a backup.
The building, which had been abandoned and often frequented by vagrants, was completely destroyed by the fire.
The fire brigade has commenced an investigation into the origin of the fire.
