The family of national cyclist Andre Simon will have to wait eight more weeks to find out if the man who allegedly mowed down their loved one will face a High Court judge for the alleged crime.

Simon was one of four cyclists reportedly knocked down by Kenyatta Benjamin of Hatton while riding on Sir George Walter Highway on May 8 2022.

He experienced head trauma and internal bleeding as a result of the Mother’s Day incident.

The other three riders were Sean Weathered, Ghere Coates and Tiziano Rosignoli.

All four men received treatment, but while the other three were discharged from the hospital, Simon remained in the ICU.

It wasn’t until early July that Simon – while in a wakefulness coma – was transported to the TIRR Memorial Hospital in Texas for further treatment.

According to reports from his family, he is improving slowly.

But months later, the 39-year-old motorist said to be responsible for Simon’s condition is still awaiting his committal hearing, and will not find out if there is enough evidence against him until February 9.

Several fundraisers have been held and continue to be hosted across the nation in an effort to raise more than US$500,000 for Simon’s medical bills.

The government also contributed an undisclosed amount to Simon’s medical care, while an online GoFundMe account – https://gofund.me/49f11497 – has so far raised just over US$71,000.

Interested parties can also make donations via the Caribbean Union Bank at account #20004089, the Community First Credit Union at account #098425, or the Eastern Caribbean Amalgamated Bank at account #131003564.
