Calvin ‘Burga’ James has another three months to wait to know what punishment the court will impose on him for the attempted murder of his niece, Amanda James, and for wounding his sister, Ineta Liburd, with intent during a vicious attack four years ago.

His sentencing is set for October 28, following his recent guilty plea in the High Court before Justice Iain Morley.

This is the same man who, while on bail for the two matters above, allegedly murdered another niece, Tahisha Thomas, and Sanchezca Charles, his nephew’s fiancée, and attempted to murder his nephew, Lawrence James, in October last year, in a dispute over family property.

At the time of the May 2015 attack, ‘Burga’ James’ sister was 50 years old and his niece was 27. Both women had to spend an extensive period in hospital for treatment due to the seriousness of their injuries. The niece’s injuries were the worse of the two, and to date, she still does not have full function of one of her hands.

According to a police statement, on the morning of the incident officers attached to the Grays Farm Police Station responded to a 911 Emergency call of a wounding in Donovans. When they got to the scene they met James’ sister at the family’s home with head injuries. He had beaten her severely with a piece of wood and tased her until she collapsed.
