Buckley’s 3J’s and Flyers crowned male and female T-10 softball champions

Buckleys 3J’s and Flyers captured the men’s and women’s categories of the Antigua and Barbuda Softball Cricket Association (ABSCA) T-10 Competition following triumph in the finals contested on Sunday.

Playing at Powell’s, Buckley’s 3J’s defeated Dredgers by six wickets to take top honours in the men’s division.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, Dredgers raised 88 for eight in their 10 overs with Mervin Higgins hitting a top score of 32. There was one wicket each for Dequan Martin and Steve Martin who had one for six and one for seven respectively, both bowling for the victors.

When their turn at the crease arrived, 3J’s got to their target at 89 for five with 1.4 overs to spare. Randino Turner top scored with 28, while Ashfield Weatherhead contributed with 14 runs. Stelbert Plant was the only bowler of note for Dredgers with one wicket for six runs in one over.

Buckley’s 3J’s had previously beaten Bullets by 32 runs in the semifinal showdown while Dredgers beat Strictly Business by 40 runs in their semifinal clash.

Meanwhile, in the women’s final also contested at Powell’s, Flyers made light work of Potters Uprising to win by 10 wickets to claim the women’s title.  

Choosing to bat after winning the toss, Potters Uprising were restricted to just 42 runs in their 10 overs, losing five wickets in the process. Carla Weatherhead top scored with 18. Makada Samuel claimed one wicket for three runs in two overs.

Flyers then raced to their target at 43 without loss from just 3.4 overs. Samuel led the charged with 26 not out while Sevely Ireland chipped in with 13 not out.

On their way to the final, Flyers also made light work of Bullets to win by seven wickets while Potters Uprising edged Enforcers by five runs.
