Youth charged with receiving over $16,000 in stolen goods granted bail, to reappear in court on May 15

A teenager charged with larceny and receiving over $16,000 in stolen goods made his first appearance in court yesterday.

Eighteen-year-old Mitchy Spencer Jr of Union Road, Hatton allegedly received over 100 items to include electronics, clothing, food items, medicine, cleaning items, bank cards and tools.

The items, worth a total of $16,938 were reportedly stolen from a retired teacher.

Spencer Jnr appeared before Magistrate Dexter Wason in the St John’s Magistrates’ court yesterday morning and was granted bail in the sum of $30,000 with a $3,000 cash component.

In order to secure his temporary release, he also has to find Antiguan sureties, surrender his travel documents and sign in to his nearest police station a couple of days per week.

He was also required to return to court on May 15 for his committal hearing.
