Time of Victory and AFBAHLUR to clash in MPL final following major upsets

Time of Victory and AFBAHLUR will play in the final of the MPL Cool & Smooth Sherma Jackson Business League Softball Cricket Competition slated for Sunday, following triumphant showings in the semifinals at the Potters playing field over the weekend.

In a major upset, Time of Victory defeated favourites TG Welding by 48 runs in the second semifinal.

Essan Warner was in destructive form, slamming 14 sixes and two fours as he totaled 112 not out to help Time of Victory amass 168 for two in their 10 overs. Michael Greaves also got in on the action with 53 runs.

In their chase, TG Welding could only get to 121 for seven before their 10 overs elapsed. Charanlal Ramjohn was best with the bat, scoring 33 runs while Jermaine Otto chipped in with 31 runs. Arianna Farrell and Greaves were the pick of the bowlers for Time of Victory, each claiming three wickets for 22 runs in two overs.

Warner and Farrell were named male and female players of the match.

In the other semifinal contest, AFBAHLUR upstaged Defence Force to win by 46 runs.

Batting first, AFBAHLUR posted 125 for two in their 10 overs with Richie Thomas hitting a top score of 60 while Vincie Bowen contributed with 24. Terique Mason was lobe bowler of note for the army men, picking up one wicket for 20 runs in two overs.

Defence Force were then restricted to just 79 runs in 9.5 overs with Bowen the major bowler of note for AFBAHLUR, claiming three wickets for just one run in one over. Thomas also had some fun with the ball to snatch two wickets for 10 runs in two overs. Edwin Jackson and Malik Marcellin hit scores of 21 and 19 respectively for Defence Force.

Thomas and Monique Titus were the male and female players of the match.

Sunday’s final will bowl off at 2:20pm with the third place contest set for 12pm both at the Potters playing field.
