Team Antigua U12 advances to Phase 2 of Development Championships

Team Antigua and Barbuda Under-12 Tennis team advanced to the semi-finals of the Under-12 Team Championships Sub Region 4 in Trinidad. 

The team, comprising of Zoey JamesAysha Hosamand Janae George-Alexanderafter losing their first encounter 3-0 to Trinidad on Monday, rallied to win their final two matches against St. Lucia and Curacao. 

Playing on Tuesday, Antigua and Barbuda won 2-1 versus Curacao as George-Alexander defeated Dewi Nissa 6-4, 6-1, while Hasam went under to Gianna Martis 1-6, 1-6 in the singles matches.

Doubles partners, James and George-Alexander tied with Rania Hallander and Martis with a 6-1, 4-6 [10-8] score line. 

They followed suit a day later, trouncing St. Lucia 3-0. 

George-Alexander defeated Latoya Murray 6-2, 6-1, while James was victorious over Iyana Paul, winning, 3-6, 6-2 [10-8].

Doubles partners Hasam and George-Alexander continued Antigua’s winning ways, trouncing Amara Jn Marie and Latoya Murray 6-1, 6-0. 

The team was expected to face Guyana in the semi-finals last evening, but up until press time the results could not be obtained. 

Meanwhile, Sibley Charles’run in the singles draw at Copa Merengue came to an end Monday when she faced Mariela Fortuny H2H for the fourth time this year, falling, 0-6, 0-6.

 Charles will now look forward to the doubles competition
