The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) is looking to allay fears that the replacement ID card for electors to use to vote today could be exploited.
The commission earlier today said people who lost their voter ID cards could come down to their office with a passport size photo where the special ID would be prepared.
But at least one comment Observer media has seen questioned how the commission would be able to verify the person’s identity and suggested that the arrangement appeared “ripe for exploitation.”
According to ABEC’s PRO Elisa Graham, those fears are unfounded.
“When the person comes with their passport photo the information is actually pulled up in the system and verified so there’s no grounds for exploitation in any manner,” she told Observer media when contacted for a comment.
There are some 51,000 eligible electors for today’s general election.
