A tropical storm warning is in effect for Antigua and Barbuda as Hurricane Maria is forecast to past south of the twin island state by tomorrow.
Maria was upgraded from a tropical storm to a category one hurricane and was located at 360 miles to the south east up to press time yesterday.
The system is likely to become a major hurricane by tomorrow. According to the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services, hurricane and storm force winds are extended 15 and 105 miles respectively from the centre of the storm.
The meteorological office is cautioning residents to be vigilant and to closely monitor the system as any shift to the north can create greater damage to the islands.
A hurricane warning remains in effect for Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat and Guadeloupe. Based on the projected path, the eye of Hurricane Maria is expected to pass over Guadeloupe and Dominica.
