Rockets, Hawksbills and Rangers were all winners on opening day of the Cool & Smooth Joma Caribbean T10 cricket competition at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
Playing in the second match of a triple-header, Rockets were powered by a hard-hitting Rahkeem Cornwall who made 60 from just 27 deliveries to guide his team to a 25 runs triumph over Pacers.
Cornwall, later named player of the match, slammed five fours and the same number of sixes on his way to the half century as he lifted Rockets to 117 for four in their 10 overs and the highest total on the night. Kerry Mentore chipped in with 22 from 14 deliveries. Kenrick Scott was the pick of the bowlers for the opponents with two wickets for 11 runs in one over.
Pacers were then restricted to 92 for four in their allotment of 10 overs. Scott top scored with 31 at the top of the order. Kadeem Phillip led the way with the ball, bagging two wickets for nine runs in two overs.
Meanwhile, Hawksbills defeated Renegades by six wickets when they met in the feature contest.
Batting first, Renegades reached 103 for three in their 10 overs with their best effort coming from Elroy Francis Jr who made 34 from 21. Kadeem Henry contributed with 27 from 22 balls. Gavin Tonge, Michael Harillal and Justin Athanaze all had one wicket bowling for the opponents.
Hawksbills then raced to 109 for four in just eight overs with player of the match, Tonge, making 52 from 19 deliveries. He struck two fours and four sixes. Athanaze made 35 from 17. There were two wickets each for Timmo Thomas (2/13) and Shavaughn Moore (2/22).
In the other match contested Tuesday night, Rangers defeated Chargers by seven wickets.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, Chargers got to 72 for six in their 10 overs with a top knock of 26 coming from Amahl Nathaniel. Player of the match, Kofi James, claimed two wickets for six runs in two overs.
Rangers their reached their target at 73 for three in just 7.5 overs. Demari Benta top scored with 29.
