Residents question proposal to establish ‘Tyson Farm’

News of a proposed cannabis farm destined for Antigua and Barbuda is travelling like wildfire through the twin island, leaving a trail of opinions, especially noting the government’s plan to collaborate with US boxer, Mike Tyson, on the venture.

Some residents of Antigua and Barbuda are not pleased with the idea that the former World Heavyweight Boxer may establish a cannabis farm on the island, and have voiced their concerns that locals will not be the sole beneficiaries of the cannabis industry.

Social media users bombarded a news post stating that “we have enough cannabis experts here” on island.

They also made strong remarks of disapproval saying that “if anyone should benefit it should be local people.”

However, during last week’s post-Cabinet press briefing, the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister, Lionel “Max” Hurst stated although the quantum of persons who will gain employment through the cannabis farm is not known, Antiguan and Barbudans will benefit tremendously from the endeavour.
