The Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) will host a number of trial matches here, in Antigua, starting this week as they prepare for the regional women’s competition slated for later this month.
LICB President Enoch Lewis said players from Nevis and St Kitts are expected to converge in Antigua where they will compete for spots on the sub-regional squad for the WICB tournament.
“The team from last year has been retained in terms of the coach and manager and the team will assemble in Antigua. Sixteen ladies will assemble shortly in Antigua for trial matches and the team will be selected from that. I think they arrive here Monday or so for start of the trial and the camp,” he said.
Admitting that preparations have been moving somewhat slowly, Lewis said some teams had already started their own preparations ahead of the trial matches.
“Only Antigua, Nevis and St Kitts are playing women’s cricket so St Kitts played against Nevis in terms of trying to decide who the players would be. In Antigua, the Antiguan women played against the Under-15 team on a few occasions just to determine who would be selected,” he said.
The regional tournament is slated to bowl off the middle of April.
