‘Jimbo’ clouts Blackhawks to convincing 40 overs victory

West Indies A and national all-rounder, Rahkeem “Jimbo” Cornwall, powered People’s Insurance Company (PIC) Liberta Blackhawks to an impressive 225-run victory over Jennings in the cricket association’s State Insurance Corporation (SIC) 40 overs competition on Saturday.
The right-hander slammed 128 retired to lead Blackhawks to a massive 353 for five in the match that was reduced to 34 overs after the match got off to a late start.
Cornwall was assisted by Avier Christian who slammed 80, Karima Gore with 50 and Ian Gore who added 44 runs to the total.
Julio Charles was best on show with the ball for Jennings, claiming three wickets for 47 runs from seven overs, while Nicholas Tappin bagged two wickets for 66 runs in six overs.
When their turn at the crease arrived, Jennings were limited to just 123 for three in 31 overs after their already reduced overs were further decreased via a penalty. Rowan Watkins top scored with 36 runs.
Javy Benjamin bagged two wickets for 31 runs off four overs for Blackhawks.
Meanwhile, Combined Schools also made light work of their opponents, defeating Aqualympia Rising Sun Spartans by eight wickets at Factory.
Batting first, Rising Sun were all out for 106 in 25.3 overs. Jamel Shillingford picked up four wickets for 38 runs while Miandre James claimed three for 25 both bowling for the victors.
When their turn at the crease arrived, Combined Schools reached their target in 30.1 overs, losing just two wickets in the process. Kadeem Henry top scored with 50 not out while Donald Sheckles contributed with 36 runs
In the other match played on Saturday, Empire defeated Bolans by 61 runs at Rising Sun.
Sent in to bat, Empire made 221 for seven with Jauri Edwards hitting 76 and Junie Miller getting 67 not out.
Bolans, in reply, were all out for 160 in 33.3 overs. Orlando Peters top scored with 59 while Winston Nelson hit 34.
Melvin Charles did the damage with the ball for Empire, claiming three wickets for nine runs while Kenrick Scott snatched three for 30.
The competition is scheduled to continue next weekend as Blackhawks play Spartans and Empire play New Winthorpes on June 8.
