Gray’s dominance continues as Jeremiah takes control in Seniors Division of Independence Draughts Tournament

Marvin “Bruce” Gray remains at the top of the standings in the Masters Division, while veteran Amakusa Jeremiah took control of the Seniors Division when play in the Prime Minister’s National Independence Draughts Tournament continued at the Multipurpose & Exhibition Cultural Centre at Perry Bay on Tuesday night.

Gray won both of his matches on Tuesday, beating O’Neil Jordan 7-1 in his first sit-down before side-stepping Antony “Tony” Gomes 6-3 to take his tally of points over two days to 26 from four matches.

Veteran Bernard “Premier” Willock, who also won both of his matches, followed closely on 25 points in the second slot. Willock easily dispatched Dale Samuel 9-0 before beating St Clair Josiah in a similar 9-0 fashion.

Gomes, with 22 points, rounded off the top three. Gomes beat Josiah 9-0 but lost his second contest to Gray.

In other matches contested in the Masters Division on Tuesday, Elvis Cordice beat Vanus “J” Hector 6-3, Josiah had the better of Jordan 5-2 and Josiah defeated Hector 5-2.

Meanwhile, Jeremiah took his tally to 21 points at the top of the standings in the Seniors Division following a 5-2 win over Jack Matthew and a 7-1 triumph over second placed Tion Grant. Grant, in his other match, was held to a 4-4 draw by Stevenson “Smoothdee” Vital.

Matthew, after four matches, sits in the third position with 16 points. His only favourable result came on Tuesday came against Eustace “Zocio” Samuel via a 4-4 draw.
