Cedar Grove Blue Jays will take on John Hughes in a decisive clash in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Premier Division vs First Division playoffs on Monday [today].

The match-up follows a dominant 8-2 triumph for Blue Jays over Bendals on Friday at the FA’s technical center located on the Sir Sydney Walling Highway.

Blue Jays had a hattrick from striker Keon Greene who scored in minutes 30, 48 and 66 while Javorn Benjamin recorded a brace with goals in minutes 45 and 70. Yanil Stevens (64), Mickele Culzac (74) and Maykele Culzac (86) all scored once in the huge victory.

Jahbendigo Jacobs (4) and Daren Stevens (81) each netted once for Bendals.

The victory puts Blue Jays, who finished third from bottom in the Premier Division standings and John Hughes, who placed third in the First Division on three points each. John Hughes had beaten Bendals 5-1 in the opening clash.

The winner of Monday night’s clash, slated to kick off at 7pm, will earn a spot in the Premier Division. Blue Jays, boasting a better goal difference than that of John Hughes, could however progress on a draw.

Meanwhile, Second Division’s Freeman’s Village FC could advance to the First Division with only a draw against Potters Tigers when they meet in today’s opening match.

This after Sea View Farm, who were previously beaten 2-1 by Freeman’s Village, defeated Potters by a similar 2-1 margin on Friday.

Junior Carr (44) and Nathan Willock (79) both scored once for Farm to see them past the struggling Potters squad. Javon Henry scored the lone goal for Potters in minute 8.

For Potters to remain in the First Division, they would need to beat the Village men by at least three goals which would see them take the playoffs by virtue of having a better goal difference. The opening match is due to start at 5pm.
