Two students of the American University of Antigua (AUA) narrowly escaped serious injury in a car accident yesterday afternoon.
The accident took place on the corner of Blue Waters main road, in front of the Cedar Grove Primary School.
The vehicle was travelling west around the corner in front of the school, when it veered off to the left, through bushes, and ended up slammed into a stationary 40-foot container.
The passenger of the car told OBSERVER media, he was eating when the accident occurred. He recounted, “I saw his glasses slide down his face and he can’t really see when his glasses are not there, and he kind of swerved to the left a little bit, and it hit the side of the road, and then he swerved back right, like he pulled hard on the steering wheel, and he lost control.”
The passenger said the driver’s head hit the windshield when the vehicle hit the container.
When OBSERVER media arrived on the scene, the driver was unable to give a comment.
Meanwhile, Kerry Whyte, the owner of the container said he had plans to retrofit the container for a business but now, that is no longer possible.
Whyte said that he contacted his lawyer, and will be seeking compensation.
After the police took the driver’s statement, and cleared the scene, they transported him to the hospital for a medical examination.
