British judge named as new Court of Appeal president

HAMILTON, Bermuda, Nov 15, CMC  – Sir Christopher Clarke, a 71-year-old British judge, has been appointed as the new president of the Bermuda Court of Appeal.
 Government House on Thursday said the  judge, who has served on Bermuda’s Court of Appeal since 2016, replaces Sir Scott Baker, a Briton who took over from Jamaican Edward Zacca four years ago.
Sir Christopher was a judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales from 2013 to 2017.
“I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Sir Christopher Clarke as the next president of the Court of Appeal and am confident that his legal expertise and experience will continue to serve Bermuda well, maintaining the island’s reputation as a legal jurisdiction of the highest order,” said Governor John Rankin .
Meanwhile, lawyer Craig Attridge has been appointed a magistrate, to replace Barbadian Archibald Warner, who has retired.
Attridge has served in Bermuda’s courts at all levels, as well as before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Human Rights Tribunal.
