Two Antiguan basketballers have joined the group of student athletes who have been offered athletic scholarships.

Adonis Humphreys and Selassie Braithwaite, who both hail from the Flyers Basketball Club and are former students of the St. Joseph’s Academy, were the two latest recipients of partial athletic scholarships.

Earlier last week it was reported that 16 youth footballers also received athletic scholarships. Thirteen through the Free Kick Foundation and three through the University ID Combine program hosted by the Generation Next Football Club (GNFC).

Humphreys and Braithwaite will both be attending the South Western Illinois College (SWIC) in Belleville, Illinois for two years where Humphreys will major in Civil Engineering while Braithwaite will major in Culinary Arts.

Both players made their debut on the silver medalist senior men’s basketball team, the Bulldogs, in 2018 at the Caribbean leg of the newly-implemented FIBA AmeriCup 2021 Qualifiers. They however have been a part of a number of youth national teams.

It was from that venture that Assistant Coach of the Bulldogs Jay Harrington offered both players the opportunity as Harrington is the Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball team at SWIC.

Both, Humphreys and Braithwaite left Antigua on Wednesday where they shared their gratitude to the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA), Eye Mobile, and their local club and school coaches for their input.
