New Winthorpes Lions racked up their first win in the Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA) 10 Splash Tournament following a comfortable eight-wicket triumph over Bolans Blasters at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Playing in Zone A of the Dream 11 powered tournament, Bolans Blasters were restricted to 53 for nine in their 10 overs after having won the toss and opting to bat. Tajeja Tonge top scored with 11 runs, but extras amounted to 13.

Ishmael Peters was the pick of the bowlers for Lions with three wickets for just one run in his two overs. Kyian Joseph picked up two wickets for 14 runs in his allotment of two overs.

Lions then eased to 57 for two in 6.1 overs, requiring only 26 minutes to complete the chase. Hilroy Andrew Jr led the way with 28 not out while Peters chipped in with 14.

The win lifts Lions to six points from three matches with one win, one loss and one no-result while Bolans remains at the bottom of Zone A without a point.

Wednesday’s opening match between PIC Liberta Blackhawks and Police was abandoned due to rain.

Blackhawks had won the toss and opted to bat, amassing 89 for three in their 10 overs. Joshua Thomas hit a top score of 27 not out after facing 17 deliveries. Kadeem Phillip was also batted not out for 24. Lashawn Barnarde was the pick of the bowlers for the lawmen with two wickets for six runs in two overs.

Rain then intervened, ending the match midway through.

Blackhawks are third in Zone A with six points while the lawmen occupy the second slot with eight points.
