Antigua & Barbuda’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Casroy James has resigned from the post.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne confirmed the resignation to OBSERVER media . It took effect March 31, 2017.
His resignation comes months after he was asked to explain his involvement in an alleged bribe in connection with the Odebrecht scandal. James denied accepting bribe money but agreed to return sums which he claimed were paid to him for independent consultancy work.
Prime Minister Browne said in his year-end Cabinet Review that James would be relieved of his position if he cannot give a “satisfactory explanation if any money has been paid to him” in the ongoing international bribery scandal, which has its roots in Brazil.
In December 2016, James issued this press statement regarding the allegations against him.
