Work has commenced on the laying of the Mondo certified surface and the erecting of other amenities at the country’s lone track & field facility, the YASCO Sports Complex.

Andrea Trinchero, one of two Mondo technicians already on island, started work at the facility last week with the other technician, who is said to still be in quarantine, set to join his counterpart on completion of his mandatory isolation.

In a recent interview, Deputy Director of Sports, Evans Jones, had predicted the laying of the surface could be completed by end of February.

A trip to the facility revealed that work is well under way with some sections of the surface already layered with the necessary adhesive and other preparatory agents to allow for the commencement of the laying of the surface.

Officials have however been tight-lipped regarding the progress of work at the facility, divulging little information when contacted.

YASCO has been under rehabilitation for some time now with various factors hampering its progress, resulting in the failure to meet a number of previously set deadlines.

In his latest interview on the subject, Minister of Sports Daryll Matthew revealed that the government had successfully negotiated with Mondo for its technicians to arrive in January (last month) with work commencing between the end of that month and the beginning of February.

Reports have indicated that members of the defence force have been deployed to assist with ongoing work at the facility which has been out of commission for over two years.
