A nurse and breast cancer survivor from Antigua and Barbuda will be among panellists taking part in a webinar this Thursday aimed at supporting women diagnosed with the most common form of cancer.

Activities are currently in full swing across the Caribbean as the world marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This year, insurance giant Sagicor has built its ‘PINKtober’ campaign around the importance of building a community to support those with the illness – the leading cause of death by cancer for women in the region. The tagline is simply, “Join the Fight”.

With this in mind, the company will host a webinar on October 26 from 6-7pm. Emelda Benjamin will join fellow panellists Dr Asante Le Blanc, a doctor and chairperson of the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society; Dr Keisha Liddie, primary care physician from St Kitts and Nevis; and Tonya Byer, a digital communications specialist and breast cancer survivor from Barbados.

Sagicor’s Randy Howard said, “We’re really excited about this webinar because we are hoping to have a discussion with our guests about how one’s journey with breast cancer is impacted by the community around you.

“We will be going through a discussion about the signs, what to look out for, how to navigate testing – but we really wanted to talk about how the experience is changed by how your community supports you.”
