The 26-year-old man charged with the murder of Newfield resident David Roberts is set to make his first appearance before court today.

The confirmation came from Jeffrey Daniel’s attorney Wendel Robinson, who said his client was charged at around 10am on  Sunday.

It is alleged that on Friday, an altercation ensued between Daniel and 56-year-old Roberts, who were known to each other, and the body of the older man was later found in the vicinity of his home with injuries.

A doctor pronounced him dead at 9.05am.

Robinson claimed that his client also sustained injuries.

“Our client Jeffrey Daniel cooperated fully with the investigations, had nothing to hide and also he would have sustained several injuries about his body including his chest, his forehead, his fingers, his back, etcetera.

“And from our instructions or from what he told the police, are from the incident that took place between him and the victim, deceased,” Robinson stated.

The attorney expressed condolences to Roberts’ family.

“We remain remorseful for the family at this time. Unfortunate incidents do take place and we offer our condolences to the family and our sympathy. However, I have my job to do and that is to represent the accused with all the ability that I have in me,” he added.

The incident is the second homicide recorded in Antigua and Barbuda this year.

The first was that of Corporal Clifton Common who was allegedly killed at St John’s Police Station by 20-year-old Verel Simon who was in custody at the time.
