National female sprinter Joella Lloyd finished fifth in the finals of the women’s 100m dash on Saturday at the 2021 SEC Championships in Bryan-College Station, Texas.

The University of Tennessee standout and national 100m record holder had previously advanced to the 100m finals after running a time of 11.45 seconds to place second in the second of three heats. She finished behind Louisiana State University’s (LSU) Symone Mason (11.34 seconds).

Despite having claimed the SEC short sprint (60m) title during the indoor season, Lloyd could not make it two in a row, finishing in a time of 11.25 seconds in the finals for fifth.

Alabama’s Tamara Clark, who was the overall winner, clocked a time of 10.87 seconds while LSU’s Symone Mason settled for second in 11.06 seconds. Lloyd’s teammate Maia McCoy secured a third place finish in a time of 11.08 seconds.

Lloyd, despite clocking 23.62 seconds, failed to advance to the finals of the 200m with her first outdoor run of the season.
