The bail application filed by attorneys representing Mehul Choksi in the Dominican High Court has been adjourned.

The court was expected to hear and rule yesterday on the application made on the diamond tycoon’s behalf.

It will now be heard at a later date yet to be confirmed.

The Indian-born fugitive remains in police custody as a patient at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, where he has been for more than a week.

Last week, Choksi pleaded not guilty to illegal entry into the nature isle, but his plea for bail was denied by the Chief Magistrate. The 62-year-old claims he was kidnapped from Antigua, where he has held citizenship since 2017, and forced onto a boat to Dominica.

Choksi is wanted by the Indian judicial authorities for allegedly cheating the Asian country’s Punjab National Bank of more than US$2 billion.
