Leeward Islands’ dismal run continued in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Under-15 Championships here on Tuesday as they lost a third straight match in the competition, going under to Barbados by 134 runs at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground. Chasing a massive 318 for victory, Leeward Islands were restricted to 184 for eight in their allotment of 50 overs.
The unsuccessful runchase was led by Nathan Edward who made 60 not out from 101 deliveries. He counted three fours during his 129 minutes at the crease. There was a noteworthy performance from Jewel Andrew as well, hitting 32 off 85 balls, counting two fours in the process.
Rashad Worrell, Nathan Sealy and Dave Lovell each picked up two wickets for the winners. Earlier, Barbados were led by a splendid knock of 137 from Kamario Grant off 123 deliveries. The youngster hit 11 fours and four sixes in his 157 minutes at the crease.
He was assisted by Dakio Worrell who made 40 from 42 deliveries. There were contributions as well from Rashad Worrell who made 39, Sealy who made 21 and Lovell who made 21 not out. Glen Williams picked up two wickets for 64 runs from his 10 overs bowling for the Leewards while Akadianto Willett, Nathan Edward, Wilden Cornwall Jr. and Tijunai Stevens all snatched one wicket each.
Meanwhile, Trinidad & Tobago continued their winning ways with a 151-run triumph over Jamaica at Ball Beef in Liberta. T&T made 324 for six in their 50 overs, with Andrew Rambarran hitting a top score of 77 and Justin Jagessar adding 61. Jamaica were then restricted to 173 all out in 37.5 overs. Jordon Johnson topscored with 64 while Julani Sinclair added 40, both in the losing effort.
In the other match played on Tuesday, Guyana defeated Windward Islands by 25 runs at the Coolidge Cricket Ground. Batting first, Guyana amassed 222 for nine in their 50 overs with Rampertab Ramnauth hitting a top score of 57 and Zachary Jodah not out on 45. Windward Islands fell just short at 197 all out with Mahid Lambert hitting a top score of 50.
