There are seven murder trials set for the next criminal assizes scheduled to start in the last week of April, and they were among 65 cases on a provisional list used in yesterday’s arraignment at the High Court.
Twenty-six-year-old Maximilian Roberts is to stand trial for the July 2013 double killing of 75-year-old businessman Zephaniah “Zephy” Joseph of Cedar Valley and his employee 29-year-old Edwin James of Yorks.
Joseph and his employee were at Joseph’s establishment – Ottos Multi-tyre Centre on All Saints Road – when they were shot and killed.
Another murder accused, Jeffrey “Nash” Campbell, a Jamaican who was residing at Kentish Road in April 2013, is to face a jury for the fatal shooting of Sylvester “Copper” Carbon. The victim was gunned down on April 10 in Gray’s Farm. According to eyewitnesses, Carbon was shot as he left a shop and was walking along Bridge Road.
Sherfield Bowen and Lawrence Daniel will be representing joint murder accused Natamba Jardine of the Point and Tony Fontaine of Hatton who allegedly stabbed Mario James to death at Shanty Town during the Carnival celebrations of August 2014.
Jenoure Craig will go on trial for murder again for the May 5, 2007 killing of Randy “Joe” Nelson. At his last trial, a 12-member jury couldn’t unanimously decide whether or not he was guilty. Only eight jurors believed he was guilty.
