What better way to celebrate the new year, than to engage in merrymaking in the streets at daybreak as a way of demonstrating freedom and hope for the months ahead?
This was probably the reason that propelled revellers, this past Monday, to converge on Mack Pond, All Saints from other areas of the All Saints East and St Luke Constituency – John Hughes, Old Road, Swetes — to participate in a New Year’s J’ouvert.
The event was organised by the Helping Hand Foundation (HHF) in collaboration with Senator Colin James.
According to Senator James, the response to the New Year’s J’ouvert is a sign of what is in store for Carnival 2017, as he advised patrons to act responsibly at similar events.
“I think the turnout at the J’ouvert is an early indication of the type of Carnival to expect for 2017. I am appealing to revellers to be on their best behaviour at all times with events of this nature,” he said.
The organisers expressed gratitude to those who attended and contributed to the ‘jump up’, along with the police officers who ensured the safety of everyone who participated.
“The Helping Hand Foundation in collaboration with Senator Colin James would like to thank everyone for their support and their contribution for the New Year’s J’ouvert. HHF would like to thank the police officers for maintaining an incident free J’ouvert and for controlling and marshalling with the revellers and the music truck,” they communicated in a press release.
In addition, they gave special thanks to the various sound systems and performers who made the event possible.
“Also, a big thanks to Daddy Barlo and Revo Band, Acid Sound System, Raeburn Generators, Yaps Trucking Service and the media for all the support with performance and promoting the event.”
The HHF also launched its Masqueraders Mas’ Troupe for Carnival 2017 and has extended an invitation for everyone to be a part of it. The first 50 persons to register would receive complimentary membership.
The foundation also hinted that a huge concert is being planned for March, and that more details will be announced as soon as possible.
