A 24-year-old man who allegedly had sexual intercourse with a girl who is not of age to consent to sex, has been jailed for four years.

The convict is Jamaican national Kevin Cragey.

Two months ago he admitted to one count of the sex offence with the 14-year-old and Crown Counsel Shannon Jones-Gittens withdrew the other two charges.

The Sexual Offences Act says it is wrong to have sexual intercourse with any child under the age of 16.

Anyone guilty of having sex with a child between 14 and 16 years, can be jailed for a maximum of 10 years.

If the victim is under 14 years, the maximum is life in prison.

Justice Keith Thom handed down the sentence in the High Court today.
