Young Lions welcome Green City with President’s Cup defeat

The Young Lions FC was in fine form on Tuesday as they welcomed newcomers, Green City, to the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association’s (ABFA) domestic programme with a heavy 4-1 beating in the President’s Cup.
Playing at home in Old Road, Young Lions was led by Jalan Willock who scored in minutes 40 and 72 to record a double. He was assisted by Roy York and Zavier Joseph who netted in minutes 22 and 10 respectively.
Green City, a team which hails from the Bendals village, scored a consolation goal in minute 75 when Kasroy Simon pushed home from close range.
There was victory as well for Westham as they edged Garden Stars 2-1 at the Princess Margaret School (PMS) ground.
Stephan Whyte and Anderson Herbert were on target for Westham as they scored in minutes 23 and 68 respectively. Oren Peters was on target for Garden Stars in minute 37.
Meanwhile, in a close contest, Flow Bethesda beat Blackburn 5-4 on penalty kicks after finishing 1-1 in regulation.
Playing at home, Bethesda had to play from behind for the draw when Rolston Francis netted in minute 73. Francis’s goal nullified a 58th minute conversion by Stevie Willock on minute 58 for Blackburn.
 Also, newcomers FC Master Ballers started on a winning note when they defeated CPTSA Wings 1-0. Jonathan Francis scored the lone goal of the game when he struck in minute 78.
The competition is slated to continue daily at venues across the island.
