Young Lions shock Villa as Rangers and Fort Road win in President’s Cup

Old Road’s Young Lions recorded a shock 1-0 victory over former Premier Division champions Villa Lions in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) President’s Cup when they clashed in Old Road on Wednesday.
Playing in Group 9, the lone strike of the contest came from Roy York as Young Lions got their first win after two outings.
The loss was Villa’s first after their scheduled contest against Glanvilles had been cancelled after their opponents pulled out of the President’s Cup.
Meanwhile, Ottos Rangers enjoyed a close 3-2 victory over English Harbour when they met in Group 8 at the English Harbour playing field.
Shaquille Carr struck twice for Rangers while Kareem Martin scored the other goal. Howard Monteque and Andre Cesar both scored once for English Harbour who are making a return to competition following a one-year hiatus.
In the other match played on Wednesday, Fort Road had the better of Urlings 2-1 n in their Group 7 encounter.
Joumol Semper and Tony Gomes each netted once for the winners while Javid Roberts was on target for Urlings.
It was the second victory for Fort Road who had beaten Point Westham 1-0 in their opening contest while the loss was Urlings’ second.
The top teams from each group and the top six second place finishers will all advance to the knockout round in the competition.
