Budding basketballer players, age 15 years and under, will have the opportunity to sharpen their skills during the 8th Annual Mahijah Davis Basketball Academy (MDBA) Christmas Fiesta Basketball Camp set to run from December 16-20 at the JSC Sports Complex.

Organizer of the camp and former national player Mahijah Davis said the intention this year is to give those young players who did not get the opportunity to attend the camp held earlier this year, a chance to have an authentic camp experience.

“In the summertime, a lot of the kids usually don’t get a taste because we’ve moved from the summer camps and trying to push tournaments like what we did in August when we brought Barbados to play with a couple of our local teams. The younger kids who did not get a chance to play in the summer, the parents are asking if we are going to have something for the younger ones like six, seven and eight … up to 14 years old, so we’re putting on this eighth annual fiesta for those who got left out in the summer,” he said.

The camp will cater for both boys and girls with participants being put through their paces by a number of recognised coaches.

Davis said the camp has been his way of giving back to the game.

“I love working with the younger youths from 14 and under to try and see how they can find their fundamentals, their love for the game and I have a lot of passion to try and get back our skills to another level where we have our 17 and 18 year olds running the top programme, and that is what we are really looking for at this moment,” he said.

Registration for the camp is $100 per participant which will include ‘light refreshments’. Interested individuals can call 721-2264 for more information.
