A Clarehall woman has been taken to hospital after a road accident in Valley Church this morning which saw her cut from the vehicle by firefighters.

Tona Bentick was travelling towards the Darkwood Beach area around 8.50am with daughter Yaskie Bentick and a male passenger when tyres of the Toyota she was driving apparently blew out.

“Both tyres blew on the right side of the vehicle, she lost control and slammed into a tree,” Sergeant Jerry King, of the Fire Department, told Observer.

“We had to use the jaws of life to rescue her. It took around 10 to 15 minutes. She was conscious and responsive,” he added.
The other two passengers were unhurt.

“We were on our way to a job; we are mechanics,” Bentick’s daughter Yaskie told Observer. “It was frightening; I was frightened not for myself but my mother.”

The injured woman, of Wireless Road, was said to be suffering back pain.
