Willock wins local draughts tournament

Former Mind Sports Sportsman of the year, Bernard “Premier” Willock, will look to add more hardware to his cabinet.

Willock claimed the Masters Division title in the ongoing One Caribbean Draughts tournament over the weekend despite having one more match in hand.

He defeated Dale Samuel 7-1 on Sunday at the Barefoot bar at Pensioners Beach to extend his lead at the top of the standings in that division to 68 points.

Anthony Gomes was also all smiles that day as Gomes, after his latest wins, secured the second-place spot, also with one game in hand.

Gomes who now sits on 57 points, defeated Dale Samuel 7-1 and thrashed Nathaniel “Smiley” Shaw, 9-0.

St. Clair Josiah presently sits in the third spot with 33 points.

Other matches in the Masters Division saw Josiah defeat O’Neil Jordan, 6-3, while he fell to Dale Samuel 6-3.

Meanwhile in the Seniors Division, Euren “Hardroy” Jeremiah defeated Stephen “Backrow” Ferrol 7-1 while Jeremiah and Stevenson “Smoothie” Vital played to a 4-all draw.

Theodore “Freddy” Jervier however still remains on top of the standings with 59 points while Amakusa Jeremiah and StephenBackrowFerrol sit in second and third with 43 and 42 points respectively.

The tournament continues on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the same venue.
