Willikies FC was in a combative mood on Sunday night as they inflicted a 4-1 trouncing on former champions Five Islands when they clashed in the opening match of a triple in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Premier Division.
Playing at the body’s technical center located on the Sir Sydney Walling Highway, Willikes had four different goal scorers, the first of whom was Kwami Byers who opened the scoring in minute 20.
The onslaught continued in the second half when Phil Nicholas made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute before Nadre Thomas stretched Willikes’ lead to 3-0 with an 85th minute conversion.
The struggling Five Islands FC pulled a goal back on minute 87 via a Tony Lorente Sanchez conversion, but an added time Novelle Francis Jr close range effort restored Willikies’ three-goal advantage over their opponents and, more important, maximum points from the contest.
There was victory as well for Tryum FC who stunned Greenbay Hoppers 1-0 in the night’s second fixture. The lone goal of the contest was scored by Chevel Cunningham in the 35th minute. Hoppers were reduced to nine men in the latter stages of the contest after Kareem Wilson was red carded for serious fouls play in the 82nd and Brandon Emanuel was sent off after picking up a second yellow on minute 83
In Sunday’s feature contest, Pigotts Bullets snatched a 2-1 victory over All Saints United.
Tyrique Twaites opened the scoring for Bullets in the 16th minute while Shamar Dyer stretched his team’s advantage on minute 65. All Saints’ lone conversion came off the boot of Ajani Thomas in minute 80.
