A Willikies man was still fighting for his life up to last night after being shot multiple times in a shocking incident on Sunday night.
The 25-year-old – named locally as Jahfari Isaac – was shot in the head, thigh, side and scrotum, sources told Observer.
Up to news time, he remained in a critical condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit, breathing through a ventilator, but insiders warned he was unlikely to survive.
He was rushed to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre after an assailant opened fire on him at a bar in Willkies shortly after 8pm Sunday.
Video footage being circulated locally on social media – which Observer has not been able to independently verify – appears to show a light coloured vehicle driving slowly past a group of people sitting at a table.
Shortly after, what looks like a male assailant appears and shoots at one of them before fleeing the scene. The victim slumps to the floor as his companions scarper.
Police say they are investigating the incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
They are also appealing for help cracking a separate incident on the same night in which a school secretary was injured with a flare gun by robbers who targeted St Joseph’s Academy. The victim, Shane Anthony, was robbed of his mobile phone and cash at around 6.15pm Sunday. One of the assailants also discharged his weapon, causing injuries to his ear. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.
Both suspects in the latter case are said to be of slim build and approximately 5 feet 8 inches in height. They were wearing dark clothing and had their faces concealed.
Anyone with information on either incident is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or the Crimestoppers Hotline at 800-Tips (8477).
