With almost all hope lost, striker Carl “Stamalan” Kirby kept the fire burning bright for Point WestHam as they defeated Bolans FC 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Division 2 Zone 1 encounter. Frustration began to stir for the west-side team as Janic Richards of Bolans would score the equaliser in the 48th minute after Kirby had put WestHam ahead in the 17th.
It would however be Kirby who would save the day as he found the back of the net with a late goal to help Westham take full three points and move within four point of front runners, Sea View Farm FC who sit on 30 points. Bolans dropped to 4th place with 17 points. Meanwhile, JSC Progressors held Young Lions to a 1-1 draw in their match-up at Old Road.
Rick Gordon would get the home team off the mark but a strike from Progressor’s Glyston Ghingaree would give the struggling team a point. Despite dropping points, Young Lions jumped to 5th place with 17 points. Bolans boast a better goal difference of plus 5 although holding an identical record. Progressors remain at the bottom of the standings with 2 points.
In the other Zone 1 matchup, Jennings United thrashed Pares FC 3-0 in Jennings. Shaquille Gabriel was one goal shy of a hat-trick, scoring twice forthe victors while teammate,Jean Pierre Williams sank the daggerin the hearts of Pares with the final goal.
