West Indies A bow out of Tri-Nation series on losing note

NORTHAMPTON, England (CMC) – The West Indies A failed to win a single match in the Tri-Nation series, crashing to their fourth straight loss on Friday.
Chasing India’s challenging total of 354 for six in their 50 overs, the Windies capitulated for just 151 in 37.4 overs, to lose by a mammoth 203 runs.
Windies’ fast bowler Chemar Holder made early
inroads into India’s innings, claiming the early wickets of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer to leave them struggling on 28 for two in the fourth over.
But Hanuma Vihari and Prithvi Shaw both stroked commanding centuries to take the momentum away from the Windies and turn the contest into a lopsided affair.
The pair added 160 in 24 overs, dispatching almost every bowler introduced into the attack.
By the time Shaw departed for 102, becoming the last of Holder’s three wickets, India had progressed to 188 for three in the 28th over.
His knock lasted an hour and 47 minutes and came off just 90 balls, laced with 16 boundaries.
Vihari found useful partners in Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shanker and Ishan Kishan, who continued to put the Windies’ bowlers to the sword.
So dominant was India, they smashed 105 runs from the last 10 overs, with off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall being the only bowler to go unpunished, his 10 overs costing just 43 runs.
By the time Vihari was run out off the last ball of the innings, he had blasted 147 runs from 131 balls. His three-hour knock containing 13 boundaries and five sixes.
Holder was the pick of the bowlers, ending with 3-70 from his 10 overs.
In their run chase, the Windies got off to the worst possible start, losing Jermaine Blackwood to the very first ball of the innings.
The wickets of Andre McCarthy for 17, top scorer Chanderpaul Hemraj who made 43 and Devon Thomas (1), followed soon after to leave the Windies in deep trouble at 80 for four.
It was a position from which they would never recover as Axar Patel ran through the lower order, grabbing the last three wickets to finish with figures of 4-34 from 9.4 overs.
Deepak Chahar chipped in with 2 for 21 from his five overs.
India will now turn their attention to Monday’s final where they will take on the England Lions.
