Four local clubs will compete for coveted honours in Warriors Cup.
Premier Division contenders FC Aston Villa and Garden Stars, newly promoted to the top flight this season, will both compete against Master Ballerz, and host Young Warriors, both of the Second Division when the 2023 edition of the Warriors Cup kicks off on Thursday (September 21) at the Radio Range playing field.
“We are delighted once again to stage the Warriors Cup as we look forward to the support of the sports-loving public,” said President Colin James.
“As is the nature of the tournament, we hope to see a number of young players showcasing their talents ahead of the start of the national season,” James added.
Young Warriors and Garden Stars kick off the tournament at 5pm on Thursday followed by Villa Lions against Master Ballerz at 6:30pm.
After a break on Friday, the teams return on Saturday and Sunday for back-to-back double-headers to conclude the competition.
Team honours and individual prizes will be up for grabs.
“The participating clubs are eager to compete and they use the Warriors Cup to help fine tune their preparation for the upcoming season which is likely to start about mid-October,” James said.
There will be prizes for the best goalkeeper, best defender, best midfielder, best coach, best manager and best referee. Golden Ball (best player) and Golden Boot (top goal scorer) will also be rewarded.
The Warriors Cup started in 2006 and has featured top club sides from Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Grenada, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia and St Maarten.
